About Vaughan, Ontario
Vaughan formed from several historic villages, including Woodbridge, Maple, Kleinburg, Concord and the western half of Thornhill. It grew quickly from the 1980s onward and is now one of the largest cities in Ontario.
The city’s new downtown, the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre (VMC), is built around the Line 1 subway terminus that opened in 2017. High-rise condos, offices, a YMCA and a library now surround the station, and more towers are under construction.
Vaughan is also a major employment hub, with a large industrial and logistics base along Highways 400, 407 and 427. Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital, which opened in 2021, was Canada’s first smart hospital.
