About Richmond Hill, Ontario

Richmond Hill is a city of about 202,000 people (2021 Census) in central York Region, between Vaughan and Markham along Yonge Street.

Richmond Hill began as a village on Yonge Street and grew into one of York Region’s three largest cities. Its northern half lies on the Oak Ridges Moraine, a protected ridge of forests, kettle lakes and trails that includes Lake Wilcox.

The city is best known for its schools and family neighbourhoods, including luxury Bayview Hill and historic Mill Pond. The south end around Highway 7 and Yonge, called Richmond Hill Centre, is becoming a high-density hub as the Yonge North Subway Extension is built.

Richmond Hill is home to a large Chinese-Canadian community and a growing Iranian-Canadian community, which is why Yonge Street north of Highway 7 is known for Persian restaurants and grocers.
