About Whitby, Ontario

Whitby is a town of about 138,500 people (2021 Census) in central Durham Region, between Ajax and Oshawa, and home to Durham Region’s headquarters.

Whitby grew around its harbour and its historic downtown at Brock and Dundas Streets, where heritage buildings, restaurants and the Station Gallery still anchor the town. Port Whitby, on the lake, has a marina, waterfront trails and Lynde Shores Conservation Area nearby.

North of Highway 407, Brooklin began as a separate village and has grown into one of Durham’s most sought-after family communities, with a small-town main street and large new subdivisions.

Between the two, neighbourhoods like Williamsburg, Taunton North, Rolling Acres and Pringle Creek were built mostly from the 1980s onward, with parks, trails and schools throughout.
