About York, Toronto
York is a working- and middle-class area of modest detached and semi-detached homes, many built from the 1910s to the 1950s. It is still one of the few places in Toronto where buyers can find a detached house under the city average.
The opening of Line 5 Eglinton in 2026 changed the area: stations at Mount Dennis, Keelesdale, Caledonia, Fairbank, Oakwood and Cedarvale now link York to Yonge-Eglinton and Line 1. Mount Dennis is the line’s western terminus, and Weston has UP Express and Kitchener GO trains to Union and Pearson.
Eglinton Avenue West between Keele and Allen Road is known as Little Jamaica, the heart of Toronto’s Caribbean community, with restaurants, record shops and bakeries.
